Reviews for Hummingbird
by Ted Bookey
….Adept in the repertoire of the craft's resources, his nature images always manage a vivid accuracy and arresting beauty. In many of the poems he displays a sharp and leavening wit. He knows how to use repetition and space meaningfully. ...From the tragic to the comic, all there in these fine poems.
by Jenny Doughty
James Breslin's poetry offers close observations of nature, and a profoundly theological world view. He also delights in words and wordplay. One particularly pleasing aspect of his work is a sly humor that often reminds this British reader of the English poet John Betjeman.

Red-Tailed Hawk
We come closely to connecting Circe with the Hawk Goddess. ~ Judith Yarnell
Circe, the hawk goddess, could turn men into beasts and I believe it.
There’s something magic in a hawk.
She’d come for years, but this year she was late. I feared for her and worried she might not come at all.
Yet here with her talons wrapped around the wire she scanned the stubbled autumn fields like a sniper at her perch.
Last year I watched transfixed as she calmly pecked a flailing dove to death.
I felt pity for that creature in her claws. But throughout the day I mostly thought of her and how I’d been so fiercely graced.
