The flat-bottomed version
of some French boating scene
rounded the cliff
bearing three generations
with the seal of hill dust.
From our picnic, holding
eggs and bottles, we turned
to watch the old man in the bow
in white holding his descendants
back with a long-stemmed pipe.
They looked at us looking at them
