...a collection alive with curiosity, wit, and hard-won wisdom. ..Lightfoot balances candor with lyric precision, finding joy in small moments and meaning in ordinary rituals. This book is a luminous meditation on aging, resilience, and the unexpected consolations of daily life.
by David Blazevich
...Lightfoot takes us on a remarkable journey through the rich mosaic of roles that she has inhabited through her full and varied history...this extraordinary collection remains a vibrant and often quietly humorous celebration of life's richness. I am enriched by her astute observations and insights into the human condition.
Underwood, Washington
I once lived for twelve full moons
on a bluff above the Columbia River.
On clear nights Mt. Hood rose
ghostly in my picture window,
moonlight dancing on
glaciers and snow fields
as it had for 50 million years.
Young teacher away from it all
I loved, filled up with objectives,
I rarely mused on the grace
that held me at the window
those nights, watching
sleek moonfed hawks
climb thermals,
turn, sheer off
and glissade
toward
home.
